Sensei Henry Francis has developed an understanding of the many benefits that karate can bring. With childhood obesity rates rising, karate is a good way to learn a new skill whilst increasing fitness levels. Karate is also a good way of channelling the energies of more active children. The physical benefits of karate include increased; - stamina, flexibility, balance, co-ordination and strength. Karate also supports the development of many life skills. It is a social activity where children and adults mix with their peers, supporting each other as they move through the grading system and attend competitions. Discipline, self-control and patience are central to the philosophy of karate. Kareteka (karate students) are supported in developing skills and in believing in their own abilities this has a positive impact on their self-esteem.
